Errol Spence Jr. was born in Long Island, New York on March 3, 1990.

He is of Jamaican descent through his father and African-American descent through his mother. He moved to Dallas, Texas, at the age of 7.

Spence made his professional boxing debut with a win over Jonathan Garcia in November 2012. In May 2017 he defeated Kell Brook to win the IBF welterweight title and bring his record to 22-0. Errol Spence Jr. beat Lamont Peterson to retain his title in January 2018. In June 2018 he defeated Carlos Ocampo to retain his IBF welterweight title and he retained again by defeating Mikey Garcia in March 2019 to bring his record to 25-0.

Errol earned a $3 million purse for the fight against Mikey Garcia plus an another $5 million from PPV purchases. In March 2019 he was ranked as the best active welterweight and the 5^th best active boxer.

On September 2019, Errol defeated Shawn Porter. He earned a $2 million purse and another $3-4 million in PPV bonuses.

In July 2023 he lost to Terence Crawford. Both Errol and Terence were guaranteed $10 million for the fight and will likely both earn $20 million when all bonuses are calculated.
